Solar + property taxes

Last month, the provincial Ministry of Finance proposed regulatory adjustments to Ontario Regulation 282/98 to ensure that solar energy projects installed on rooftops (and smaller ground-mount systems) do not cause an increase in property taxes. This is to prevent property tax from acting as a disincentive to energy generation, particularly for residential installations.

This is certainly a step in the right direction, and will allow homeowners to pursue solar without worry of being punished by the municipality. Currently in London, there is no record of increased assessments from solar installs: the proposal will ensure that this will continue into the future.

Fun solar video

We here in southern Ontario get better solar exposure than Minnesota, so this video certainly applies to us. Enjoy this James Bond spoof about the true power of the sun!
